If you have experienced a crime or tragic circumstance, you may experience a wide range of emotions. There is no right or wrong way to feel at a time like this. You may feel that you have no control over what is happening to you. You may be offered our confidential, non-judgmental service and we will only provide assistance if your consent has been given. The chance to choose or refuse VCARS is the first step on the way to regaining control. VCARS Responder Volunteers respond to direct referrals for on-site support from police and fire services. These referrals could include, but are not limited to situations of fire, sudden death, partner assault, sexual assault, elder abuse, property crime or motor vehicle accidents involving serious bodily harm or death. Family members and/or friends may also be assisted. A team of trained, volunteer responders can offer on-site support for your immediate needs and offer referrals to existing community services if longer-term support is requested. Many feel that receiving immediate support can reduce the impact of the crime or tragic event and can assist in the recovery process. |
